    Hello,
on the evening after the Seves Island battle, Alex had confidentially been told by Regimental Hauptfeldwebel Heinz Gabbey that Oberstleutnant von der Heydte had put him in for the Knight's Cross.
By the end of the month, Alex was captured and he only learned late in 1944 (November or December, he does not remember anymore) in POW camp in the USA that he had actually been awarded the Knight's Cross.

Robert, now I know who you are. Our gang stayed in the large OD tent. We had given our rooms to the veterans so more of them could come to Normandy. Do you have more pics of the ceremony at Seves Island?
Please PM me about this matter. Thanks!

    best regards,
    Volker

Interesting thread. I'm amazed that the french allowed Alex Uhlig to wear his RK and I noticed others wore their Jump Badges...Great stuff!! I'm still wondering if anyone has wartime pics of Alex Uhlig other than the Portraits that we all know. I have never seen pics of him in anything else. I seem to recall that Alex came from the Dresden area which by the time he got home in 1947 was in the Russian Zone and I think he lost all. Many other FJR 6 members would have had pics of him though. I would love to see some posted here!! Bill Petz
