    Steel vented helmet bolts.

    Hello everyone.

I've been cruising the pages of this forum in search of some information on helmet bolts. I found a lot of info, but in all of this not the one I've been looking for .

I would like to know when the steel slotted and vented bolts were introduced? For instance, would CKL-marked helmets have had all aluminum bolts, or is a mix with steel ones also possible? I've seen slotted aluminum and vented aluminum being discussed in several threads, but not the steel ones (or I must have missed out on something)

Info on this is most welcome.

    Frank.

    Hi Frank,

The reason you don't see this anywhere is because no one knows for sure when the "ckl" helmets came out, when either slotted aluminum, ventilated and slotted aluminum or steel slotted bolts came out. You find those 3 types, along with earlier spanner bolts, on "ckl" marked shells. Steel slotted bolts seem to be the last type to be issued. Yes, there is an entire run of late-wat FJ helmets that used ventilated aluminum slotted bolts on the sides and steel slotted bolts on the rear. Otherwise, you seldom see a mixture on untouched helmets. Aluminum slotted bolts seem to have come out after steel spanners, then came ventilated aluminum slotted and finally steel slotted.

      Thanks for the clarification Willi!

Reason for asking is that I have the chance to obtain a late war one, but these days this is getting a hazardous (and costly) enterprise.

      Frank.
