M38 DAK/MED Camo FJ Helmet

There is no doubt he was WAY upfront with this but if he was gonna do it anyways why ask and Shock us this bad with the results.

My apologies to all for the mistake that was made, I put my trust in the wrong person. I have had a few sleepless nights over the ordeal and can promise to all that I will never make the same mistake again. If I had known that this is how the helmet would have turned out, I would have never gone through with it, what I asked to be done to the helmet and what was actually done to the helmet were two different things. Even though the helmet isn't how I would have liked it to be, I don't think that it is completely ruined, it is still a DAK FJ helmet with its original paint, it had been messed with before and is still messed with. I contacted MJN after I had already sent the helmet off, I should have just asked for it back but I still had faith in the other restorer and after talking to some very knowledge collector's I should have known better. Even though the mistake was made, I wanted to make sure that this restoration was public knowledge, when selling helmets honesty is a policy that I live by. MJN, if another situation like this ever presents itself again, I will contact you first. A very hard lesson learned.

Jeremy,no one is percect,that was not a very bad mistake,you want to restore this one ,you can t know from start how bad its will be done by your man,so dont worry to much abaut now,still good tropical camo helmet.

Bad Decision yes...Worth an Apology NO WAY...It could have very well turned out awesome.,It can be reversed I would imagine but that should be the last time to fiddle with a Piece for everyone reading. I knew guys who would Regularly uncover decals from under killer camo...Whats done is done...No use worrying about it.

Now that the damage is done is there any chance the paint over the eagle could be removed and the helmet brought back to somewhat the way it started the thread?

I dont think it looks that bad after restoration, looks better to me without the varnish, I would still like this helmet, I just dont like the prices for helmets these days!

I think with a lot of care and patience the paint over the decal could be removed, the point of concern will be if the decal did not suffer any more damage when it was "handled" when the repaint over the decal and varnish over tan camo paint was removed. By the look of things the decal repaint area was done in an "light" paint coat and probably with a brush, so the coat of paint should be very light. But again one should wonder if there still a decal under the paint....the varnish removal prosses could have damage the already dugout decal for starter.

I really don't know why the person who did this "restoration" paint over decal did not macht the color to blend with the original tan cammo paint and use an airbrush..instead of a paint brush..to achive a finer looking finish that blend with the rest of the original paint. In my VERY,VERY personal opinion and collector taste I would not have made any effort to change/restored it and just have leave it in the original shape it came down from it's travels tru decades of post war survival......but now that it's done.....every effort should be made to made a proper and seamless restoration....but veryyyyy careful and taking a lot of attention to do it for the last time.
