    3rd pattern snaps question?

what is the arrangement (male/female) of the snaps on the hem of a 3rd pattern smock? i guess what i'm looking for is the order of m/f snaps moving outward from the split at the center rear. (trying to up the detail on a 1/6 scale f.j.)
also, would the domed painted side of the snap be visible at the very front of the smock skirt?

    grateful for any info!

    cheers,
    rob

      Hi Rob,

Looking at the outside of a 3rd pattern smock, there are 4 visible snap parts on the hem but none of them are the domes.

Starting from the slit moving towards the side seam.
      - Female side of the dome. ( If one is looking at an FJ smock from the front and the drop tail is visible then you could see the two dome snaps on either side of the slit)

      - next Male

      - then again female side of the dome

      - then another male

There is a fifth snap at the bottom center front corners but it is only the female side of the dome. The dome part is sandwiched between the two pieces of fabric of the CF body and inside Center front facing.

      Hope this makes some sense.
Check out this thread for more visual reference and good luck with your figure.

mark- thank you, that's exactly the info i needed! i've looked for pictures that showed the arrangement clearly, with no luck- i figured this would be the place to ask.
richard- the new soldier story fj fig appears to have accurate looking male snaps- but they're ALL male. i figure i'll buy a few smocks to caniblize for those, and the female snaps should be a bit easier to make if i can just center the holes (if.....).

again thanks - w.a.f. comes through yet again!

        cheers,
        rob

good luck with your snaps...I would like to know a few ways to make them as well....I did see the new Soldier Story FJ at the weekend of heroes. If i had the money, I would've walked out of there with the new one from Soldier Story, DiD, Toys City, and the Monte Cassino MG crew...

            Hi Rob n Richard,

This probably isnt the place on the forum to discuss this - but anyway - for the caps, I'd make an original out of plastic. You can put a piece of plastic rod in a drill or Dremel and shape it using a file or sand paper. Use the drill as a lathe. Once you have the cap shape complete - make a mold of it using Femo or silicon if you have that. Then you could make copies out of Milliput or resin if you have that. Check your local hobby store for supplies and ask them they might have another solution.

Happy modelling - it's been years since I did it and miss it a lot.
