This is a Sterbebild image of Obj. Anton Kressierer killed on the Iraklion airfield 20.05.1941. He was a member of 6./II./FJR.1 (Burckhardt)<O></O>

I'm not an expert on the FJ jump badges so opinions on this one would be much appreciated. It looks like a Fsch des Heeres to me but I appreciate I could be incorrect. If correct it indicates he had a slightly different career path to his comrades from the original II./FJR.1. Or he may have borrowed the outfit for the photo? <O></O>

Hi David,

You are correct, he is wearing the Heer Paratrooper badge and was an original member of the Fallschirm-Infanterie-Kompanie or Battalion. When the FIB was incorporated into the Luftwaffe on January 1st, 1939, it became II of FJR1, so it makes perfect sense that he was a member of 6./II./FJR1.

I believe the original II./FJR.1 became FJR.3 in latter 1940. So this is an interesting case but not unique.
