My grandfather saw them land at Eben-Emael, because he was spending a week with his grandparents living in Vroenhoven. He has told me some of the most intruiging stories about the war, but I always loved to hear him talk about the day time stood still, ie. when German Forces set foot on Belgian soil once more.

He collected a wide range of memorabilia of the war, but sadly enough lost most of it afterwards.

This year is the 70 anniversary of the attack. The importance of the date should make us remember people and soldiers who died on both sides. Although it's been already commented in another thread, attached is a link to the information of the reconstruction of the attack which will be performed by many reenactors.

No, Patrick, I'm afraid it's only in French. I could only get this piece of new from a Belgian nespaper, "La Meuse"... Anyway, it seems that there is more available information in the webpage of the fort.

Giday everyone,

For me, what is very sad about today is that almost all of the combatants, German and Belgian, who survived the war have now passed away. Seventy years is a very long time and any veterans from the conflict must be in their late 80's at least!

Thanks Patrick for sharing with us the document belonging to Gehard Raschke confirming his right to wear the Iron Cross, first and second class. Very nice!

Hi, I visited the fort a few weeks back and I was very impressed. You can get a two hour tour for 6 euros-$9USD- though I think you can only get that on certain days. I've attached a pic of the main entrance as it is now.
