    Merdock,

Nothing there indicates he was a military glider pilot.

The NSFK Flugbuch could have been for sport or prerequisite for military flying, however in this case potentially for engine powered aircraft.

Can you show pages of the Flugbuch? Can you see anything that might say A, B or C Prüfung?

Is that that him in post 13, the Obergefreiter at the front? If so then he is wearing a NSFK Glider Badge and the flying personnel arm badge....indicating he could well be a pilot under training!

Otherwise the photos could indicate ground/basic training.

Military glider pilots held the green Luftwaffen Segelfliegerschein or the red Segelflugzeugführerschein (L) .

        Hi,
Thanks for the reply Ian hope these scans help,as can be seen he do's have the'C' grade in 1C,2C,3C and 4 C were there 4 levels of grade? he has his 5 hour flight listed as well with a total of 72 hours flying time?
not sure if the man is the same man but several do have the glider badge and arm badge? one at the back appears to have the larger metal badge? some of these guys are in the other photos with my man so it looks as if they are the same group.
        thanks Merdock

I honestly can not remember what 1-4 sub classes were but I see A (Nr. 32), B (Nr. 68) and C Prüfung (Nr. 91).

Also the guy in the photo I mentioned earlier clearly is wearing the C Grade badge, so could well be him. Others in the photo do appear to be wearing metal Pilot Badges and no doubt are the instructors.

I would say they are motor powered potential aircrew, completing or having just completed their glider training. They then would go to a Flugzeugführerschule A/B for aircraft training.....to C if they were to fly heavier bombers, Me 110 etc.

I will ponder over the pictures again to see if there are any more clues.

Incidentally Handorf is near Münster, I was stationed there in the 80's!

                        glider

                        Hello,

I do follow what Ian did already write => this person did indeed go though the civil glider courses (towards teh C certificate) but nothing indicates that went towards a military glider training unit.

I do more think he went towards another flying branch then the military glider one. This based upon the pictrues, etc.... as no higher grade of the shown picture (Uffz, etc...) does show a Lw. glider badge.

Also nothing on the papers that does indicate for example the following units:

                        * Erg.Gr.(S) 1 or 2?

                        Still a nice grouping

                        Cordial greetings,
my collectionfield : German glider pilots
