opinion needed on Assmann para badge

    Hello All:

I bought this badge a couple of years ago. A friend of mine was with me and he is generally knowledgable and thought it was good. Possibly the catch has been replaced but I hope it's otherwise good. From looking around as a new member there are definitely people that know what they are talking about and I would appreciate your opinion. If it's good I will be selling it as I have bought a nice cased Osang. I am going to post lots of pictures so you get a good look but if you need anything else to make up your mind I'd be happy to provide more pictures.

Sorry to say that it's not a good one. The wreath seems to be based on the BSW but even then, its not. Completely wrong for an Assmann. Here's a tombac example. Others will provide example of zinc types for you to compare.

                Hi Holger,

I can only agree with Rich, this is a reproduction. Nothing like original Assmann badges. The eagle is actually copied from original Steinhauer & Luck badges, but it is NOT an exact match. So it wasn't cast from an original, but rather just a copy of the design. The wreath is also not an exact copy of any original, but closest to BSW. This exact wreath can be found on many fakes of LW badges, so whoever is making these has made is making Pilot and PO fakes as well as paras like yours.

Here is a fake pilot badge, same wreath but marked Deumer....

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thank you gentlemen for your input. I was afraid of this but live and learn I guess. This is exactly why I stopped buying badges a few years back. My knowledge just does not keep up with the fakes that are out there. Maybe I'll try and sell as a fake. I know some collectors like to have fakes to compare with the real stuff.

                    Hi Holger,

Yes, there is a market for fakes, and you can put it for sale in the Baazar section of the estand. Price is whatever someone is willing to pay, just like anything else. I have bought some fakes in the past to study from and take apart.
