gravity knives, how to tell a fake?

Hi first I want to say this is a great forum. I found it a while ago and have been lurking. I have read a great many old posts, lots of great info. A number of years ago i started getting in to German militaria and got burned, partly by a well know collector. Last year I broke down and bought a computer. Now thanks to boards and forums like this I feel a bit more confident about getting in to this area.

Now to the question at hand. I have a chance to buy 2 non-take down gravity knives for $400. One I am fairly sure of, the blade is marked and looks correct to the pics posted on old threads. The spike has the correct waffenampt. It has good wear and aging to it. The blade is sharpend and even slightly beat up overall. The second knife is the one I am concerned about It is umarked, both blade and spike. I forgot to check for numbers on the release lever. The pattern of the knife is just like the first one execpt on the side opposite the spike there is a slight groove just like on the spike side, like you use to get the spike out. This one also has good wear and age to it.

Of course they come with a story(don't they all?). I trust the guy selling them at least not to knowingly sell fakes. His tables always have a few bayo's lots of low end rifles and a bunch of rusty traps etc.

Here is my question can any one post a pic of unmarked originals or refrence a thread with them in them that I missed? Even if unmarked is there a way to tell a real from the repros?

    thanks Rich

Hi Rich, here are some pics of mine, which is a non take down, un-maker marked example.

    Cheers, Ade.

    P.S. Welcome to the forum!

Hi again Rich, I forgot to add that $400 for two knives is very cheap!

              Have you seen this website?

Ade, thanks for the pics. Also, I never saw that sight before, thanks for the link. I read some of it and there is refrence to a 1st pattern repro. Does any one know how good they are? Is there a way to spot them? I will call the guy that has the knives to see if there are any numbers like you show in your pics. Do you know if all legit ones will have numbers? The unmarked one had no waffenamt on the spike like yours.
