    Kitchen camo M38 helmet

    Hi all,

Got this new fruitbowl/colander in a trade. Regular M35, 40 and 42's are more often seen transformed into colanders, but an M38 is not encountered on a regular basis. Helmet has been neatly transformed, showing quality workmanship, the other rim has been misformed a little because of the proces in which the holes were stamped in. The pattern and colour is identical to the left helmet on the picture below showing two 'regular' colanders in a Dutch museum. I think this one hasn't been very far away from the area I live since the wars end, because loads of FJ troopers surrendered here in may '45 so these helmets were available in abundance at the time.
It's a huge helmet, measuring 70cm's on the inside, for comparison: the M42 next to it and inside the M38 is a Hkp 66.

Since FJ is not my collecting field and since I haven't bonded to it yet I am open for ideas.

Improved models, great, you can put your arms through the large hinges when jumping, so the helmet won't come off .. , loads of ventilation holes ..

            Typical stuff ..

It might be a nice restoration project for someone who has some skills with a welder to restore it back to it's former glory as a combat helmet. Don't know how you'd strip off the enamel.

If I recall correctly, in the last episode of the great World at War series, there is footage of German helmets being re-manufactured into collanders. I once had a German-made post-war U.S. tanker's helmet that had been manufactured out of a civil police helmet. Great stuff.

In Austria you can see often some helmets!

For me it will be a little work! I like to restore some helmets! I have a steel firm!

If you want to sell this helmet, please let me know!
