I am assuming these photos that I have just posted are of early liners because the leather is a different colour to a late war helmet and the rubber pads are of a different colour or material . Am I correct ? or off the mark ? What sort of material did they use for the padding ? On a late war helmet it looks like normal rubber but on these they almost look like cork ? What other differences are there between an eary and late war liner. Markings on the leather ?

    Thanks
    Shaun

Last weekend I was lucky to pull a Late war slotted bolt camo from the vets grandson. I felt very fortunate, and then I see this...

Yeah, but you scored your superb helmet within a 30-minute drive from your house, my friend! Can you imagine having to travel all the way to Vancouver, B.C. to score these?

              Hello Gentlemen,

The eagle on the helm in post #7 of the linked thread has me puzzled.

The base arm of the hakenkreuz is clearly distorted. Would this be consistent with faulty transfer application? If so, has anyone 'out there' ever encountered this before? I can't say that I recollect ever seeing an original LW helm with a defective application of a transfer like this.

Also, am I mistaken or does it appear that there is a 'ghost' on the left wing of the same transfer? By this I mean that a part of the white extrudes beyond the black outline of the eagle. Again, has anyone encountered a similar defect in a transfer?

              Best regards,

              Hugh

                Not common, but sometimes happened.

Decals applied crookedly, with 'flipped' wingtips, distorted swastikas, etc. are often seen.
