    Rome, september 1943...

September 11, 1943. After three days of fighting in some areas of Rome, German paratroopers of 2nd division took possession of the headquarters of the Italian Radio Station EIAR (Today his name is RAI) in Via Asiago (Asiago street). With them, some soldiers of the PAI (Italian Police) monitor the building.

Same area. Note the italian camo helmets, the MAB submachine gun with fixed-bayo and the german paratroopers with a Pak anti-tank gun 75mm on background

Always excellent to see these then and now photo works...

But is it me or maybe an optical aberration but are those Italian Polizia TALL (I assume they had a tall height requirement) They make the FJ's look tiny... which I would assume the FJ where looking for lighter individuals or smaller body frames. Which brings up a question, "Does anyone know what the FJ weight and height requirements were? Min. and Max.? Just curious.

Anyway, fantastic work... must take alot of time seeking out the right locations to match these photos. This type of work is most enjoyable... even more than collecting itself.

                  Regards,

                  Jim

In pic #4, the closest fsj, is that a zf41 scope case on his belt?

Marco, These are wonderful pics. They are especially interesting for me as my father invaded with the Texas 36th Inf. Div. at Salerno.
                          Keep 'em coming, pls.

Excellent photos Marco! They provides a unique opportunity to compare uniforms and equipment.

Aren't the Italian soldiers members of their basketball team?
