Bayonette: I am told LW, could FSJ have used it?

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=333623

I posted a dress bayonette asking what kind.
    I am now told LW.
Could FSJ have used such a dress bayonette?
Any idea as to the meaning of the colors on the Troeddel?
And how to tie it back on the frog?

    Kindly move this if inappropriate.

    George,

Well....possible but a long shot!! Unless there is provenance from the FJ or his family and not from the daughter of the GI who brought it back.

Worn by Junior NCO's with their walking out dress. Best to ask the bayonet, dagger guys on how to place the bayonet knot (Tassel). Here is a scan from the book Uniforms & Traditions of the Luftwaffe Vol 1

I had a discussion with a vet about it time ago, (I still have also a draft of it). They (FJ) surely wore it, since you speak german, I will write it in german:
Die Kordel war an einem Lederriemen befestigt. Im oberen Bereich war die Farbe der Kompanie enthalten. Unsere Kompanie trug blau. Andere Kp. hatten andere farben. Allegemein wurde dieses Seitengewehr nur zum Ausgangsanzug getragen...
      I hope it helps

        Great info. thanks.
The GI vet's daughter had no idea her dad even had it. Found after his death.
She was going to throw it away.
Can anyone nail down the colors, what company, etc.?
Does a brown frog mean LW?
Does the leather Riemem mean LW?
I have no clue as to any of it....
        Bahnhoff?

          George,

What you have is a Bayonet Tassel and not a portapee. You can see the difference in the diagram. Looking from your left is the portapee and to your right is the tassel Crown/Ball, a slide, and then a long leather strap (riemen) that wraps around the bayonet frog.

The leather riemen denotes it as a tassel and has nothing to do with it being LW.

A brown leather frog means LW issue.

What color does your tassel have (upper crown/ball part) besides the lower silver threads. The slide attached to the crown/ball is also color coded according to the book and then the leather strap (riemen). The colors of the crown/ball and the slide denote what size and type of unit. There are several pages devoted to this so could you be more specific as to the colors...i.e., color of the crown and the color of the slide.

Edgar is right in saying that the FJ wore them but my point is they were available to all branches of the LW. The colors will pin it down to what size of unit and type of unit..... i.e., Regiment/Company and type of unit but it will not distinguish whether it is pilot, ground crew or Fallschirmjaeger.

Thanks for the info W. Petz!
            Does tassel translate into Troeddel?
I cannot find any of those books, got married and my stuff went to the garage when the kids came...
Troeddel sticks out in my mind for tassel.
Here are pics of the tassel if anyone has the books to nail down the outfit/regiment, etc.
So it is LW because of the brown leather frog?
I almost did not buy it as I am not a dress bayonette kind of guy, but I hated to see it get trashed.
