GWL para badge difference

Guys,

Right now on Kai Winkler’s site, he has a buntmetal GWL para badge (#8955, on page 3 of 5) with a wide barrel hinge and the wreath has these blobs on the tips of the oak leaves along the right side. Now every GWL badge I have seen (so far) has a cast-in hinge and catch on what appears to be a zinc wreath.

I have seen BSW marked para badges with these blobs on the oak leaves that are generally considered valid pieces. Did GWL make buntmetal para badges that I have simply not seen before now?

That’s the one Philippe, sorry must have missed that thread. I agree with the others that it doesn’t make me warm and fuzzy, glad I’m on the same wavelength. Most of his things look good, that one must have slipped through.

I’ll drop and give you 20 for not keeping up on things!

I agree that this a badge that I would not own. Both my GWL's are as described by Alan in his first paragraph.

Interesting thread and badge. I am not sure too about the badge but you know this can be tricky as just because we as a communtity feel it is not " textbook" or "not like mine" does mean it is fake. A lot of originals are passed over in this way.

I would not want this one either. I don't know how long you've been collecting Luft Badges,but,aside from this example,have YOU YOURSELF ever seen / examined a particular badge which had the characteristics and or parts of these two makers combined?? I have not and I'm quite sure the others have not either. That's why the badge has sat on Kai's site for quite a while now. It just wouldn't make any business sense, or for that matter common sense in this case. Look, if you were the firm of Gebruder Wegerhoff Ludenscheid, the key word here is LUDENSCHEID, why on Gods' green earth would you outsource parts (wreaths)from a firm located all the way in Austria?? You would have plenty of options right in your badge-making hometown of Ludenscheid - Assmann, Deumer, Berg & Nolte,all of whom made Para Badges. Even if GWL did do something as odd as bring in wreaths from Austria, why didn't they rivit the eagle onto the wreaths using the same method they used for EVERY rivited badge they made from the early Pilot and Pilot Observer Badges up to and including their later war zinc Flak and Ground Combat Badges?? Nah, I don't believe in this "variant" at all.

Thanks Eric. I accept all your points and no I haven't seen / examined a particular badge which had the characteristics and or parts of these two makers combined.This is why I tend to stick to bevo volunteer shields. I mean once a real one is in your hand, you don't need to punt it around for opinions.I don't balme you at all for not believing this variant. I was just wondering if you had any proof it was fake rather than a gut feeling, not like mine,my friends haven't got one,it's not in the Bender books etc
