    Jump Helmet from Leo

These images were emailed to me today so I thought I'd post them for all to see. Have responded to the owner, but felt additional opinions would be good for him to read.

    Regards,
    John

            Hi Willi,

Do you remember where you saw it? Dealer site? The owner purchased this helmet from a dealer last year.

Bolt. This is supposed to be a zimmerit covered helmet.

John, does this one hail from our neck of the woods by any chance? I saw one just like it at a local gun show a few months ago

                      Hi Andy,

No, this helmet was purchased from a dealer in the UK last year. The owner is Leo, a very nice fellow who I did not know until yesterday. Leo is friend of Ralph Heinz, and I'm sure he will be joining the Forum. Please tell him your thoughts on the helmet, as I'm sure he like opinions other than what I told him yesterday..................which, after heartfelt sympathy, was something like................." This has happened to me too, I hope the dealer has a good return policy."

Well, IMO the helmet is a complete head to toe repro. We have a gun show here every six months or so. One of the gun dealers also has a case of (normally fake) III Reich stuff. Last show he had this helmet's twin brother. He had it next to a copy of the Bender helmet book turned to the FJ helmet section. Classic! I actually took a good hard look at the thing just to study it. It was being sold as an original.

Note the size 58 liner in a 71 shell........ Now, I am absolute on the liner...Czech repro. They are the only ones who put a 58 liner size stamp on a 71 shell. As we all know, no original 71 shells had a 58 liner........only 59, 60 and 61. 58 liners were in a size 68 shell. Why use a 71 shell for a size 58 liner when it would fit in a size 68 shell? Soon to be corrected I am sure...

Yes John, I saw it on a Brit dealers site. Not sure who had sent me the photos to view.

If your friend needs more convincing.......note the sloppy stamping of the "ET71" in the shell. Note the clean nuts (lack of patina/rust), yet the bolts (on the inside view) are rusted. Note the foam rubber pads ( I bet they are soft). Note the "stiffness" look of ther chinstraps where they lay over the liner edge.
