From Austrian Air Force to 5./FJR 4

    Hi All,

I never had in my collection some many different portraits from a german Paratrooper.

Oberfeldwebel Gaunersdorfer went in the Austrian Air Force and then in the Luftwaffe.

He ended in the 1.FJD. He went in Russia, Sicily and was wounded by February 1944 in Ortona.

In Italy, a PK took some pictures of him. I have original copies from the PK and I just found that the picture I am sending has the reference 571/1707/5A at the Bundesarchiv. Maybe, Mr Chris Mason who went overthere knows already this serie.

    Anyway, enjoy the pictures

    Jean-Yves

              Giday Jean-Yves,

Thanks for sharing with us these wonderful pictures.

As you may know, I am most fortunate to own a photo album that belonged to an Austrian pilot who later was drafted into the Luftwaffe. The pilot flew a Ju 52 during the invasion of Holland.

The album contains several photographs which show the pilot wearing the Luftwaffe and the Austrian pilot's badge simultaneously.

Do you have any photographs of Gaunersdorfer wearing a combination of German and Austrian awards?

              All the best,

              Ian

                    Hi, Jean-Yves:
Nice pictures and interesting info. I saw pics from that serie mentioned above in the issue #48 of "Armes Militaria Magazine", focusing on Cassino. At least, two photos more depict this austrian para. According to Bundesarchiv reference, they are 571/1707/3A and 571/1707/717.
                    Best regards.
                    Óscar
