    FJ Helmet Opinions Please

    Hello to all.
I am a collector of German helmets and i am looking for a good 100% origianl FJ helmet to take pride of place in my collection. I have been reading the forum for sometime and find it a great source of knowledge but with all the fake helmets around i couldn't take the plunge and buy a helmet without some help.
What is the opinion on this helmet on Regimentals, http://www.regimentals.co.uk/shop/sh...delivery=delv1 i know the pics would need to be larger to make a real judgement but does anyone have any thoughts from these pics. Cheers Tim

        hi
Tim, there's a typo in the second link that you provided, Jos' one is the proper.
To ease members' opinions, give the item number for this FJ helmet.
        Regards
        Denis

If it is the feldgrau one, I saw it and I personally like it. But, I'll leave it up to the more knowledgeable FJ collectors.

The liner is toast. It's not worth anywhere near that money with a relic condition liner like that. It will also be a poor investment. Because of the condition of the liner, over the years, its value will not increase. It will become increasingly difficult to sell because of the growing emphasis on condition. Wait for a good one.

Thanks Chris, you know how it is when you are keen to obtain a piece, your judgement can be clouded. I have be looking for a good FJ for sometime but without much faith in finding a good original example, the UK market is getting flooded with Czeck fakes. Cheers Tim.

Tim R.B., the helmet looks legitimate. The liner is not in the best of shape, so I agree with Chris that it should be worth less than what Regimentals is asking for. I would, however, not characterize the liner as "toast" or in relic condition, since I have seen far worse. If the price was right (say, about $1800), I would not hesitate to add this to my collection. By the way, if you have that amount of money to spend, you should check out Bill Shea's site (the "Ruptured Duck"), which is linked on this site at the bottom. Bill has an excellent reputation and you can get a good FJ helmet for that price.

For the helmet, I don't think Regimentals is that out of line. The liner is a bit rough (definitely not relic condition), but as far as display, it's right up there with ones offered by other dealers at similar prices. For example, look at the single decal now being offered by the Ruptured Duck versus the one being offered by Regimentals. The RD's liner is better (although it is also torn), but Regimentals' helmet has a much stronger decal. For the money, the Regimentals' helmet is more to my liking as the "show side" is nicer.
