Giday Jurg,
Firstly, thank you for sharing with us such a lovely group of documents.
What I like most about the group is that you have also managed to acquire three fine photographs of the Jäger.
With regards to the query concerning the awarding of the Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe, I am most forstunate to have copies of several award certificates belonging to a former member of Sturmabteilung Koch.
The Jäger was assigned to the 2nd Kompanie of the newly formed Luftlande Sturm Regiment in August, 1940. As a member of the 2nd Kompanie of the Luftlande Sturm Regiment, the Jäger participated in the invasion of Crete, and later Russia.
Following duty in Russia, the Jäger was sent to North Africa as a member of Fallschirmjäger Regiment 5, where he was later captured when Tunisia fell.
The Jäger received two award certificates for the Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe.
The first award certificate, dated 1 September, 1942, is identical to Jurg's certificate shown above. The second certificate is dated 21 January, 1943.
On top of the first certificate, the Jäger has written, "Russia". On top of the second certificate, the Jäger has written, "Afrika".
Based upon my comments above, I believe that Wolf received the the Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe for previous fighting on Crete and in Russia.
I will post more comments tomorrow with regards to Prosper's query concerning the calligraphy.
All the best,
Ian
