Probably to use the helmet as a funnel in post war Europe, right?

        That's pretty fargin' gross Gary!

You should have a graphic image warning.

BTW I'd just like to say this is my 400th post. Thank you.

Hi Gary, I think that I have actually held this "helmet" in my hands? Was it being sold by Eddie or Mark? If so, they had it priced at about £350 about 2 years ago at Stoneleigh. I thought it was an interesting item and if it had a been a bit cheaper I would have bought it.
Max you are correct in thinking it is a funnel
          Cheers, Ade.

....Yep.. brought back from Normany by Eddie Brown a few years ago, along with a couple of FJ shells. It was used to pour diesel
Question is ;" is it wartime , or post-war ?"

            Regards
            Steve

Can't imagine it was wartime use. Most likely a very frugal French farmer making use of whatever he had available to get the job done.

I have a mdl 16 that has the same attractive modification. I have also got a 35 with all the holes filled in to be used as a pot. The horrors of war....

                    helmet use

I once was told by a very good friend of mine he knew a old lady who had flower pots made from several different German helmet shells hanging on her front porch. Her son had brought them all home from the war and drilled hanging holes evenly spaced around the edges. He told me he thought one of them was a FJ helmet as best as he can remember. Pretty disgusting huh?

                      Hello,
10 years ago(i don't know if its still in place) In Normandy, Argentan town, Trun road, in front of the supermarket, there was a tree full of German helmet hanging in, (about 20 helmet 4 or 5 FJ helmet) still in place since 44
