    Luftwaffe tropical jacket

    Hi.
It has taken a lot of courage to write this thread.
It is about my number 1 piece of kit, which is a piece constantly on display, and that I was 100% certain about, until now.

It is a tropical jacket, and there are 2 things that I am not so sure about.

    The good thing first.
The eagle looks dead right, and has been on the tunic for a long time.
The detail is spot on, even down the the colour of the underside of the pcket flaps ect.
The stitching is correct as per Tropical uniforms by JR Figueroa.
There is fault lines that you find with war time cloth.
It rearly looks right, and was bought from Westland in Holland.
The things I am not sure about.
The fabric is not ribbed cotton, more a heavy duty cotton, and the back seam is tailored (this was normally left raw for adjustment).
If it is a fake, the fakers went to great detail, the let it down on 2 obvious errors.
    What do you think?
    Lee.

    Hi Lee,

Not all Luftwaffe tropical tunics are made from twill, (ribbed cotton) so this isn't a problem in and of itself. Some tunics were also made of high quality smooth cotton duck; similar to the fine, smooth cotton material some SS camo jackets are made from. However, factory made tunics should have the woven fabric "raw" edge on the back seam. From your description, this could be an authentic private purchase tunic, or a reproduction.......please post photos. If you cannot post, please send me your email address via PM.

PS: This topic is belongs in the Uniforms Forum.

    Regards,
    John
