    Help please regarding 7th Fallschirmjäger-Division

    Hello everybody

I was lucky enough to pick up the nice award doc group of a Feldwebel in the Fallschirm-Artillery Regiment 7 Detlev had for sale today.

Could anyone tell me where this unit saw action and who were the commanding officer og the Artillery Regiment as well as the Division commander.

Thank you guys for your help.

    Greetings

    Hi, Jürg!
As far as I know, 7FJD was formed hastily in Holland in September 1944 from remnants of the 6th and parts of the 4th & 5th Parachute Divisions. It was commanded by Generalleutnant Wolfgang Erdmann, Student´s chief of staff, (awarded with the RK on 8 February 1945).
Oberst Menzel commanded FJR19; Oberstleutnant Grassmel, FJR20, and Oberst Loytweg-Hardegg, FJR21. I can´t find out who was the commander of your unit (Fallschirm Artillery Regiment 7).
This Division was supposed to defend the line of the Albert Canal in September 1944, but some units were thrown into Arnhem battle (Arnhem corridor). It surrendered to the British at Oldenburg, Germany, May 1945.
    Hope this helps. Óscar

        Jürg,

Fallschirm Artillerie Regiment 7 was commanded by Oberstleutnant Budde. Looks like it was formed in Oct of '44. Hauptmanns Odenwald and von Ehrenberg commanded the two Abteilingen. What are the dates and types of documents?

          Fsch Art Rgt 7

          Willi

I have to waint untill Detlev sent me the award doc group because on the photos shown at Detlev's site I am not able to tell the dates.
In any case the guy also got the flak badge award doc.
Is that correct with the fighting area Oscar said?

Does the Fsch Art Rgt 7 did have two Abteilungen?
I checkt the third reich factbook but this is not informative enough.

Do you have a book which you can recommend in which the order of battles can be seen of the Fallschirmjäger Divisions?

            Hi, Jürg!
Hauptmanns Odenwald and von Ehrenberg commanded the two Abteilingen.
It´s curious, but according to the source checked: A. v. Roon (1985):Die Bildchronick der Fallschirmtruppe 1935-1945 . Podzun-Pallas-Verlag, this Regiment had three Abteilungen.

This Division was included into the so called 1st Parachute Army. On the 4th September 1944, General Kurt Student received orders for the raising of a Parachute Army. Hermann Goering had promised the Führer 20,000 Luftwaffe personnel, men who had no planes to fly or ground crew with nothing to maintain.
These men along with ad-hoc and splinter groups from other Wehrmacht units were to be incorporated with veteran Fallschirmjäger units to swell the ranks of the 1st Parachute Army. The 1st Para Army was also allotted some artillery, flak and anti-tank units from various Heer (army) formations

            Regards.

              Hi Jürg and Oscar,

I could provide much more histiry of the 7th FJD from various German sources in my library. So, let me know.

Yes Oscar, von Roon shows (in that chart included in his book) that Fallschirm Artillerie Regiment 7 has 3 Abteilungen. But, that chart is very generic and may not be absolutely accurate. Could very well be 3 Abteilungen, I only listed the two I knew for sure with their listed commanders. Late war FJ formations were not up to 100% strength levels. Anything is possbile.
