Chicken Wire Camo

Hi Dave,
Did that helmet come directly from a veteran or from a dealer? It looks familiar, but I could be terribly mistaken. Not saying the wire is bad, but there is an awful lot of wear to the camo paint that occurred before the wire was applied........based on what I can see, or think I can see, in the photos.

This helmet was used by vets kids to play with. I do not know who took the liner out, I would suspect like most of the liners that were not taken care of, it was dry and the kids took it out to wear, not the vet, what would make you think the vet did that?
I also think that someone faking up the chicken wire would make it a little tighter, That is how thay all look in the picutures, nice and tight, but think about trying to put folliage in it, pretty tough if it is tight.
Anyway,it is what it is......not a current repoDaveJ

Para helmet
I'm not sure about the chicken wire but I have seen plenty of vet helmets with the leather liners removed. I suspect that many were removed because they were dried out and possibly had blood stains etc. Once saw where a kid pulled the liner out of a para helmet and painted peace signs all over the top.

I do not know if the wire is real or not and I have it here to get opinions on it. If it turns out that it does not belong on the helmet I will remove it and have a nice camo of tans and light browns to display, If the wire is real, I will leave it on.
Willi,
I am sure you have seen this helmet if you attend the east coast shows, please email me with your comments if you have seen this in person. ( cwodjoyce@aol.com )
I have read some of the threads about collecting investment pieces and seen the remarks about a helmet with a replaced bolt is less likely to appriciate than one with out and certainly as is the case for liners and chin straps (eagles replaced on smocks). I have to say that the rare or extra fine helmets( stuff in general) are usually sold before the average collector even gets wind of it. Having the chance to get a real camo such as this with out paying 5K (what it would be with the liner and chinstrap intact), is a place to start, it can be upgraded in the future, it will still appriciate and be sellable.MHO only
Enough rambling.
