    Thank you in advance,

    Hi Doc,
Perfect timing for this question. I was recently with a FJ veteran (who has a very sharp memory for details) at a militaria show as a collector was offering a lanyard for sale. More on this one in a moment.

Here are 3 variations of gravity knife lanyards that can be encountered. The FJ veteran stated these are of the style he is familiar with.

Here is a leather lanyard ('41 dated and maker marked) that was found in a map case named to to FJ NCO of a mortar battalion. The map case also contained a pair of FJ gloves, 2 silk/rayon (smock?) scarves, a dogtag holder and a wallet.

The one being offered for sale was of the same style but in web. The FJ veteran stated he had never encountered this style during the war. Any thoughts/ comments/ opinions on this matter?

        ..Interesting Sir.

...4 years ago, I bought this map case form Canada, it contained a leather lanyard with gravity knife(not this knife, The origional knife I don't remember put where & can't find it right now ..maybe later) and map holder ,some piece of paper (blank) and a half pancel.

The leather lanyard MAYBE be used on small arms ( pistle or ..gravity knife? ) or packet watch?

I don't know this map case is for FJ or not, it is only marking 3/N43 11.

        Cheers

Hi all. This kind of leather lanyard is not for knife or small arms but for german's compass.

FYI...Here is the lanyard that came in the pocket of a set of late war leather channel pants that were worn by a RKT fighter pilot....

Beautiful gravity knife lanyard Andy, they do not get anymore mint than that! And those channel trousers are superb, must have been an extra pair for this pilot!

Yes Martin, I agree with you and Katsumasa as well, the leather lanyard is too short for use with a gravity knife. The leather lanyard is also sometimes used for whistles as well as the compass. The loop of the lanyard is often worn on the shoulder board.

                    Regards,
                    John
