Original APB in .800 Silver to be auctioned

I thought I would post this because you so rarely see one of these available on the open market.

    http://www.bosleys.co.uk/

Go to the German Items section of the Sept. 14 auction.

Will be interesting to see what it sells for. Does anyone know what the estimate is?

How on earth did you find that auction Eric? Have you seen additional views of the badge, or other items?

      Willi,

Actually, a friend of mine (who has an amazing French Foreign Legion collection) found it and told me. I had seen the badge before, but didn't know it was going to be put up for auction. Well worn but 100% original example of the FIK version of the badge in Silver. This is the first one up for sale (in public) since 1991 (that I know of)

        Giday everyone,

As a matter of interest, the latest edition of the collector magazine, "Armourer" contains front and rear views of the badge. Very nice!

        All the best,

        Ian

          Guys,
Be very careful. Here is a website from someone reproducing these in excellent quality. They are 800 silver and offer them with aging and engraving. They even brag that they are being sold as originals by others. Here is the link: http://www.soldat.com

            Hi Daniel

Thanks for lettingt me know this page exists - scarry to say the least. What a prick, if he was only making these as filmprobs or "museumsreplicas" why then add ingravings or MM to the reverse?

            Cheers Thomas

Those are the same fakes that have been around a long time. Not even close to the originals (although some people buy/sell them as such I guess). The one up for auction is 100% original. Compare them closely. Night and day.

The one coming up in Bosleys is real but has been damaged by chemical cleaning. It has been punted about before the auction.

If your thinking of bidding, don't forget you have to add 15% of the sale price as a buyers premium to the hammer price.

                  Tempting.

damaged or not- it will go through the roof- no doubt.

I don't know. I don't have the catalogue. Does anyone know?

                            Hi There,

I have the catalogue - guide price is 2,500-3,000 GBP. Apparently it was acquired in N Africa during WW2 by a South African Officer.

                            Cheers

Thanks Gilbert. Approx. 5,000 - 6,000 $USD seems about right. I wonder if anyone from the forum will be bidding on it.
