I dont know why people refer to the 2nd type Wehrpas as "Mid War".

These were issued from 1938 on.That is hardly "Mid war".
In fact the 2nd type could be classified as pre war,if the 1st of september 1939 is the recognised start date for the war.

I think the term "Middle type" is more appropriate

I'm a pre-war fan myself, finding usually that the contents have a more interesting story to them!
Most of the men that had these were professional soldiers who had WW1 awards and carried on their careers throughout WW2 and served in several theatres of the war.
Nice research pieces, and a striking cover!

            Regards,

            John.

Once again, someone referring to the 2nd type as midwar.
The second type was issued from 1938 ON!!!!!.

Since when was the middle of the war in 1938?

                    1st pattern.
1934-38 .....Adler with downswept wings (Gothic script "Wehrpass" on front cover")

                    2nd pattern.
1938-45 .....Adler with outstretched wings (Gothic script "Wehrpass" on front cover")

                    3rd pattern.

To be specific, the 2nd pattern was instituted on 26 April 1937, according to the Reichgesetztblatt 1937 Nr. 52 page 469.

I prefer all of them, but if I had to choose I'd pick the mid-war.

Mid-War man myself, 90 % of all my WPs are mid-war types.

Interesting poll, and a nice thread.

                            Cheers,

                            Al
