    wehrpass UNIT ID

Hello, I am trying to establish what units this man was with from the first page of a wehrpass.
I do not have scans of the rest of the book.
I suspect this is an afrika or Italy vet bring back item, if that helps with establishing the unit.

My guess is that FAR 33 means "Festung Artillerie Regiment 33" ?
Then it is followed by "Fliegerhorst Kommand ????? 284 ? - Airbase command ....." Anyone know what the 284 would mean ?

Anyone disagree with my guesswork ?

    Thanks for any help.

I think FAR would be Feld Artillerie Regiment, I can't read the bottom one though - I imagine that FLH would stand for Fliegerhorst (airbase) though.

The first entry looks crossed out though, so I imagine it was an incorrect entry?

I'm sure Ian, or someone else, can read that better than me!

I have seen FAR used to describe Flieger Ausbildungs Regiment..not sure what it means here... I don't think it is Artillerie related...would seem odd if he went from Heer to Luftwaffe, normally the other way round!

Feld Artillerie Regiment normally tended to be a WWI term...

Fallschirm-Artillerie Regiment? but not numbered 33!!!

I don't think it is 33 but it is too blurry when enlarged.

Can't make out the second too well but it looks like Fl.H.Kdtr. Eschwede ? 284 which is Fliegerhorst Kommandantur, or Air Force Station Command. However I don't think there was a Fliegerhorst at Eschwede!!!!

I don't actually have my references at the moment as someone has borrowed them....I will have another dig around....

      /Ian

I'm inclined to agree that it's 'Flieger-Ausbildungs-Regiment 33' because there indeed was such a unit, and because nothing else fits; I find no listing for a unit numbered '33' that could be abbreviated 'F.A.R.'. It does seem to fit too with this man ending-up at a Fleigerhorst.

        Here's the unit info:

        Fleiger-Ausbildungs-Regiment 33

Created on 1.4.1939 from Flieger-Ersatz-Abteilung 33, initially (provisionally) at Friedensstandort Ingolstadt (later permanently at
Darmstadt), 1941 in Wormditt/Ostpreußen; 1942 shifted to the occupied East and redesignated Flieger-Regiment 33; 1942 disbanded and formations became part of a Luftwaffen-Feld-Division.

Stupid me...I don't think there is any other option than Flieger Aus. Reg. 33.
