KiA 25.5.1944 but which U-Boat was he aboard?

Here's an interesting one and confusing at the same time......Willi Tank was born 6.11.1924. After training he was sent to 5 U-Flottilla on 28.7.1943 for commissioning and sea trials of his new boat. Then to 11 U-Flottilla on 13.4.1944....he was killed aboard a U-Boat on 25.5.1944.

He is recorded as being lost aboard U-476 which was scuttled on 25.5.1944 in the Norwegian Sea north-west of Trondheim, Norway by a torpedo from U-990 after being badly damaged by depth charges from a British Catalina aircraft the day before. There were 34 dead and 21 survivors.

U-990 was sunk on 25.5.1944 in the Norwegian Sea north-west of Trondheim, Norway, by depth charges from a British Liberator aircraft. There were 20 dead and 33 survivors.
Onboard U-990 were the survivors from the sunken U-476 from the previous day. Vorposten 5901 rescued 51 crew members of both crews (18 from U-476).

Both boats were transferred to 5 U-Flottilla on 28.7.1943 for commissioning and sea trials, however U-990 went to 11 U-Flottilla on 1.1.1944 with U-476 going to 3 U-Flottilla on 1.4.1944. As his Wehrpaß states he was with 11 U-Flottilla that puts him aboard U-990 which rescued the crew of U-476.

U-476 left Bergen on 20.5.1944 on it's maiden voyage, where as U-990 left Bergen on 22.5.1944 on her 4th voyage.

13.4.1944 when he was transferred to 11 U-Flottilla corresponds with the day after U-990 arrived in Bergen from Narvik......odd that he did not transfer with the boat when it was commissioned in January with the rest of the crew? Or was he not on that boat and actually U-476 and 3 U-Flottolla......in which case was he rescued only to die a day later when U-990 was sunk.

Either way.....he was lost on one of these boats.......R.I.P. (R.i.F.).

Finally read through the story on this sailor. Interesting series of events to say the least on many levels.

What are the odds of seemingly be recused from a Uboot (rare on its own) and then meet your demise on another Uboot that recused you.
