WP Mismatched Dates?

Hi all,

I'm looking a naval grouping that has some awards documents and the WP all to the same guy. The only thing that concerns me is that the dates for the awards do not match exactly the dates on the award documents. 2 out of 4 match while the others are off by 2-3 days. Did this ever happen? Would you consider this a red flag?

It could be a red flag but it could be completely genuine!!!

Sometimes the date entered in Soldbuch and/or Wehrpaß is the date that their award was written on orders or actually approved by OKW/OHM/Stab rather than the date of the acuall award.

Best if you could possible show a scan of the offending entries!?

A typical example is a DKiG group I have to a member of Schüten Regiment 66. The award entry for the DK in his Soldbuch is 29.2.1944, he won the DK for actions 8.12.1943, the daily order referring to these actions is dated 18.12.1943 and the actual award document is dated 8.12.1943!

8.12.1943 being an immediate award but not doubt the 29.2.1944 is the date it was actually authorised by OKH!
