This I found in the www:

"In dieser speziellen Abteilung wurde die Baubelehrung der einzelnen Boote durchgeführt. Die Kriegsschiffsbau-Lehrabteilungen waren für die Unterbringung, die Verpflegung, die Bereitstellung der Unterrichtsräume sowie für die disziplinären Maßnahmen verantwortlich. Die Kriegsschiffbaulehrabteilung U-Nordsee wurde im Dezember 1942 in 6. Kriegsschiffbaulehrabteilung umbenannt."

If I'm reading Gerdan's info correctly, this unit had to do with all things training involved with the various types of U-boats. Not the construction, but "how to use them", so to speak. As well as the classrooms and so forth.

              Hello !

Very interesting unit, sheding some light on how German U-Boat crews were "inducted"/made familiar with their very own U-boat !

Gerdan dug out an extremely interesting link ! Thanks for that !
              http://www.ubootarchiv.de/ubootwiki/...p/Baubelehrung
In addition to what Hank wrote, such a Bau-Lehrkompanie (U) had the task to accompany the process,
how each crew learned to know the specifics of the construction of "their" U-Boat. The future crew would
arrive step by step, starting with the "LI" and the most important Machine NCO (arriving 12 weeks before the boat would be finished).
These men could even suggest slight changes, to improve the U-Boat.
The other personnel (Machine, Torpedo, general) would drop in 4, 6 and 8 weeks later.
I assume, this kind of process was very different compared to the US ?! Perhaps somone knows ?

              Best regards,

              Archi
