Still trying to figure out what this is. Best guess so far is a military factory (as of the high number) in Offenbach. But no proof or knowledge of what factory yet. Can anyone help ?

Little strange but the inscription seems pressed (just like Pollitz factory or 14 SS-T.J.R. dog tags) . Is it true?

The City of Offenbach started to distribute EM during WW2 for their citizens.

I was thinking it could be a citizen tag, but I didn't know if that existed

That would explain the very high serial number. Very interesting, I didn't know that dogtags for civilians ever existed.

I would say this is a factory related tag rather than for civilians, with the huge numbers of displaced persons moving throughout Germany towards the end of the war such an undertaking would not be practical nor feasible.

However as large factories did have many forced labour among their workforce then this makes some sense.

If they had been issued to civilians then we would see far more of them.

Civilian tags are found with names and street addresses on them.
