    More Panzergrenadier

As promised in my previous thread here we have another Panzergrenadier Soldbuch and this time is for an NCO, but with the same Division, same Regiment, same Company as the previous, a nice coincidence.

Our man was Wilhelm Regener who was born on January 9th, 1.915.

He was a soldier at the time of the opening of his Soldbuch as he was a Gefreiter on August 19th, 1.939.

    He was promoted several times,

to Obergefreiter on June 1st, 1.940, confirmed the same day by 12./S.R. 2
    to Unteroffizier on July 1st, 1.941, confirmed on 14th by 2./S.R. 2
to Feldwebel on July1st, 1.942, confirmed the same day by 2./S.R. 2
    to Oberfeldwebel on August 1st, 1.942 confirmed on 15th by 2./S.R. 2

Look that on page 3 his driving licenses were also notated.

At the end he served with the other Panzergrenadier Regiment of the 2 Panzer Division the 304, but in its 5 Kompanie.

He was wounded three times during his service, I can date two, the first on November 30th, 1.941 and the third on August 15th, 1.942.

Only the third put him into hospital first in Radom, then to Stassfurt to end in Schönebeck where he was cleared to Pz.Gren.Ers.Btl. 2 on October 28th, 1.942.

This soldier, in my opinion, also skipped the time of the Division in Normandy, but fought in the Bulge as he received equipment prior it including bins and he had his own weapon, a 9mm pistol.

Serving in a crack unit as the 2 Panzer Division means you need to prove yourself and he did it so well.

He won the next medals during his service,

Sudetenland Medaille on October 1st, 1.939
Panzer Assault Badge in bronze on October 12th, 1.940 (Awarded on October 10th)
Iron Cross 2nd class on January 3rd, 1.942 (Awarded on January 1st)
Iron Cross 1st class on April 11th, 1.942 (Awarded on April 15th)
Ostmedaille on July 26th, 1.942 (Awarded on July 27th)
Wound Badge in Black on March 4th, 1.942
Wound Badge in Silver on August 31st, 1.942
German Cross in Gold on November 16th, 1.942 (Awarded on October 9th)

Dates into parenthesis are those on the citations and I obtained copies of almost all.

            Great Sb and set !
I have already seen others examples of "exchanges" or transfers between the two inf. regiments of this division. I have myself one from I./PZGR 304 to I./PZGR 2.

This is my secret, but one form USA, one from France and one from Slovenia.

It is so good to have good friends.

Thanks to all, now I need to stop a little and work hard to refill my account.

Is there any way to know when he was taken POW with his POW number written in the page 1?

                    Thanks

Nice signature of Wilhelm Buck on page 2 (and elsewhere) while serving with Inf.Rgt 33 and who eventually commanded Pz.Gren.Rgt 2 and won the Knights Cross in July 1943. He was killed in September 1943.
