    Hello guys,
What is your opinion about this grouping?
    Soldbuch is a 711 ID.
    Normandy fights?
This soldier is always in hospital, but he received Staffing shaving cream the 17th July 1944....

A scan of his medical page would have helped.

I bought this Soldbuch from Tim some months ago, but as the 711. Inf. Div. was not really into my collecting area I sold it further I think a month ago. Edward, I still remember the medical pages are missing so they can't help the new owner further.

            Hello !

It seems very difficult to positively say, that this soldier was in Normandy.
(Especially with the hospitals pages missing, so no info on his type of wounding or illness.)
What about leave entries or the equipment pages ?! That could help too.

Some remarks on the entries shown so far:
1.) I think the p. 20 entry on shaving cream was made on 17.4.44 by FPN 26843 AK,
pointing to some hospital located at Epinal, France (the shaving cream should suffice until July).

2.) The entry below that, dated 22. Juli 1944, could be :
            >> Postgeld f. Juni RM 36,- ausgez.[ahlt] ... signature (?!) <<
I haven't seen such an entry and it is not clear to me, which unit it made.

3.) At least from 8.9.44 (p. 15), he was in another hospital again (Reserve-Lazarett Villingen (Germany)).

=> So, in theory, there is a gap in mid 1944, where he perhaps might have returned to 711. Inf.Div.

            But :
            - After a hospital stay for over 18 months, a soldier would typically be granted some time of leave
and then would be posted to his replacement unit for some time, before beeing sent to a frontline unit again.
There is no indication, that this ever happened. No Genesenden- or Marsch-Kp. is mentioned.
            - In addition, the designation of the replacement unit (Infantrie-Ersatz-Btl. 348) was never changed to
            Gren.EuA-Btl. 348
            - Never promoted to Gefreiter

            No more opinions??
            My opinion :
I think, with only the entries shown, no clear judgement is possible.
To make a positive statement, that this soldier likely fought in Normandy, further evidence is needed.

            Best regards,

            Archi

              Hi,
No more scans but this soldier was in France in 1944.
The soldbuch was openned in Mai 1941 in the 711 ID.
He stayed in the same division all the war into the 711 ID.
He was in a military hospital in Germany in August 1944.
              Before he was in France...

I hope we can find something....

                Hello !

I understand, that you are very interested in this Soldbuch.

To help you further, I can only add one question and one remark :
He was in a military hospital in Germany in August 1944.
                a) which entry shows that ? (perhaps I overlooked something important)

                b) On the crains militaria web page, there is a photo where the leave entries are covered by the NSKK Ausweis.
Below that, you can see a leave entry with date ...44. That entry could help further, once the complete date would be known.

                Best regards,

                Archi

I always store the pictures of the stuff I sold in the past. Archi, the leave you mean was in January 1944. He was in the Kriegslazarett 680 that moment as can be seen on the scan. However Kriegslazarett 680 was in France in 1944.

For this one. As it seems you are looking for any Normandy combat Soldbücher, why buying this one if there is a chance you will never find out if he was really there.
