    Afrika Rgt. 361 Erkennungsmarken

Following the other thread about the Afrika ID tags, member Kinnarodden has asked me to post these photos.
This is his text, though he will probably post more details in this thread:

Here they are but about 20 are missing. I have some more of verst. Afrika Rgt 361 and some of Afrika Art.Rgt. 361 but cannot find fotos. The Inf.Ers.Btl. zbV Rheine was the replacement unit. All germans who were in french foreign legion before. I had about 40 id discs of them own ground duged.

Hi Guys. Thank you Jean for setting the photos. Some asked me now how I got so many African dog tags.

First, the Africa Regiment 361 consisted of former German foreign legionnaires and was a kind of probation unit. The German NS state first did not like these men who had left Germany at some point to fight for the French. But you can imagine that many of these men were later close to NS ideologie and that these guys were very tough fighters who already had experience in Africa and so they created a special Africa Regiment. A short time later they were considered rehabilitated.

The Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon z.b.V. Rheine was the replacement unit of verst.Afrika Rgt.361. The men were first trained there in german military combat and than formed the Regiment. Btl.z.b.V. Rheine was later called Pz.Gren.Ers.Btl.361 and Afrika Regiment was called Pz.Gren.Rgt.361 and saw action in Afrika and was destroyed on Kap Bon near Tunis fighting for the last cartridge.

The remaining Men of the Pz.Gr.Rgt. 361 that just were not in Africa or managed to come back to Europe later fought in Italy and capitulated on Lake Garda in Mai 1945.

And more than 20 years ago I found a small valley with about 40 id discs of these men of the Africa Regiment 361..somewhere in Europe..or may be in Africa..
