The above image can be misleading in areas also as that is the new EU License, however for 7½ ton vehilces (old HGV 3) or old Klasse 2, if you passed your test prior to 1997 you can actually drive these on a car license!!! After a conversion/assessment of course!

Didn't mean to jump down your throat but I will have a chat with Gary later....

I know this is an old thread but I have a license with a "3" on it so this is for car only correct? Bit of confusion reading the different responses. I have another license as part of a grouping that has a "2". Does this photo that Ian provided only true for modern vehicles? Thanks.

Okay, been googling for answers and found class 3 is for any vehicle under 7.5 tons whether car or truck. So I guess for some tracked vehicles such as SdKfz 4 halftracks (7.1 tons) the driver would need a class 3 and not a class 2?
Or, are all tracked vehicles class 2?

That image is from the modern German license but does show the old classes, however not related to Wehrmacht driving licenses of course!

I was looking for some info last night and found some related to different tonnage of class 2 and 3, class 3 was for car/truck and I think was up to 3½ ton with class 2 over 3½ ton.

All tracked vehicles were class 2 with additional info i.e.

        Verbrennungsmaschine Klasse 2 für vollkettenkraftfahrzeug

I will try and post some more and stick a thread about it later, at work currently!/Ian

I cannot speak Frensh, can someone look up what they say about the classes in that article?
Btw, IMO they also used the following for tanks: "Klasse Gleisketten panzerkraftwagen".

Also, i found the following info on the internet:

Klassen bis 31. Dezember 1998 und Übergangsregelungen
                    1 Krafträder ohne Leistungsbeschränkung
                    1a Krafträder mit Leistungsbeschränkung (20 kW/27 PS bzw. 25 kW/34 PS)
April 1980 geschaffen, vorher integriert in Klasse 4.
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.

I wish I could speak French. Your article looks filled with interesting material. I just got my second license in the mail today and it has "2" and just "combustion engine" but no details eluding to being a tracked vehicle.
