how exactly do wehrpass work ?

a bit of a newbie question here I guess.
I have a re-issue wehrpass that was printed in 1942.
It was then issued and filled out to a soldier. The thing that puzzles me is that on his unit page there are unit entries prior to 1942 and they have been filled in with different stamps and different handwriting etc.
    How can that be ?

I would have thought that with a re-issued wehrpass all entries for a soldiers earlier service would have been filled out at once by the same admin clerk, therefore all the same handwriting etc?

Is the answer maybe that wehrpass were passed on to previous units the soldier had served with for them to fill out their own relevant details and then forwarded on to the next unit etc ?

It could depend on who it was that issued the Wehrpaß and when/where it was lost!

If known he previous service would be mentioned on page 12, if unknown then a few lines were left blank for it to be filled in at a later stage.

If say he was transferred to his new unit, that unit would require the Wehrpaß from his old unit. This is normally sent after he has all ready been transferred and appropirate Kriegsstammrollenblatt (Kstrb)completed.

After a short time if it has not arrived, his new unit would contact his old unit and his home Wehrbezirks to find the Wehrpaß....if lost someone has to draw up a new one! That could be issued by his old unit and sent off or by his home Wehrbezirks and entries copied from Kstrb sent to whichever unit.

Sometimes the home Wehrbezirks will fill in the basic info and just send that off for the Company clerk to complete.....

If you post a scan we might be able to shed some light on it!!?!?
