Can anyone help with this entry. I have a book that says page 24 is for discharge from active service, am I correct on this? If so could anyone translate the entry?

Yes, this guy was discharged on 12.10.1935 from 11 Company, Infantry Regiment Osnabrück after completion of military service....as a redundant? Gefreiter!!!
This was prewar, any wartime service?

Thanks Ian,
Yes there is a page and a half of wartime entries ( one mentions the Ukraine, thats all I can tell) but I assumed that if he had been discharged he would not have had any more military service and the pass could have been changed in recent years.

From I think 1933 all Germans had to do military service....I believe it should have been 2 years, however some were cut short.
In your example he did his obligatory "national service" and was discharged, however with the outbreak of war he would have been recalled......
Some obviously were not discharged and became career soldiers prewar....
Older soldiers were recalled for Poland and France but many were then discharged back to their civilian jobs.

Ian,
Thanks again, I have a few documents that I would like to research, can you point me in the right direction as to material, that would be helpfull with this? I think the main problem is the handwriting and script.

Well there's Gary's page Wehrpaß that will tell you what each pages is for and what to expect...
Sütterlin is not something you pick up overnight, so I suggest posting on the forum what you are stuck with....until you have mastered it of course!!!!

Conscription was reintroduced in Germany on 16th March 1935. The official period of enlistment was two years but the real aim was to get as many men trained as possible.
As such the a two year period service is not encountered that much in wehrpasses...far more common is a one year service or a three month short training (kurz ausbildung). The latter is especially so for slightly older men.
