    Sani I.D tag

    Hello All

I recently purchesed this I.D tag to a Sani, unfortunately i know very little about these disks and would like to request some assistance. is this by any chance for a member of San Konpanie 229? with a roster number of 180. And the most important question, is it original?
    Thanks for any assistance

    Kindest regards
    Jason

      Hi Jason,

That's a very interesting specimen Jason- Sanitäts-Kompanie 229 should have been part of the 229. Infanterie-Division, but there was no 229. Infanterie-Division. Usually mistakes like that are used as proof of a fake, but in this case the disc itself doesn't look bad at all...

        Hello Matt

So would you say that the tag is original with strange text?
        Thanks for your help

          Hi Jason,

From the image, yes, I'd say it looks authentic enough- or at least it doesn't appear to have any of the features of a fake, and a Sanitäts-Kompanie isn't really an 'interesting' enough unit for me to think anyone would bother to fake...

              Matt,

              Why not Infanterie Regiment 229?

                The answer is fairly simlple.

                Versorgungs Einheiten 229 = Infanterie Division 197.

The tag looks good to me.

Be carefull with using scheme "number of divisional unit = division number" quite a number of divisions ( Gebirgsjager, Panzer but also Infanterie) used numbers not corresponding to the divisional numbers.
Some cases are even more tricky - for example 150 ID used both 150 and 354 numbering for it's Sanitats Kompanie.
                All best

                  Matt,

I understand why it isn't the regimental number, sorry about that!

                  Al,

May I ask how you know this or what information is available to prove this? Very curious!

                  Chris

Ah! I have "Tessin on a cd" so to speak and I couldn't find anything referring to a unit "229".

Ah yes, indeed you're right Al- thanks for the correction. I broke my CD-ROM drive recently so can't access my VMD disc, so I have to rely on the Lexikon der Wehrmacht site for the moment- and there one has to actually go through the Divisionen to find certain units. Of course I'm well-aware that the unit numbers don't always match their Division's number, but here it'd have taken me 196 tries to find the right one

Unless, for some reason, you clicked 196 first! Then it would have only taken you one try!

                            Chris,
probably you haven't found San.Kp.229 on Tessin CD because coy size units aren't mentioned there (they aren't mentioned in the book either - but you can find the general info on divisional units in the text)
Looks like it was worth spending pennies from my piggy bank on a book version
                            Cheers
                            Al

Pennies, eh? I wish!! I think it is generally accepted that the cd reference is not as complete
