      helmet

hi grant, think youd be better off posting this under the helmet threads, but sch is an abreviation of scharfurher, meaning roughly the grade of sargeant, not sure of the hptw

Hi Grant, looked at it from the other direction from Phil, its probably Hauptfeldwebel or First Sergeant, the sch could be Schutze or Scharfschutze, rifleman, sharpshooter. Though that doesn`t really make sense a Sergeant being a rifleman/sharpshooter.

        Cheers
        Ian

If it is Police then it is Hauptwachtmeister der Schutzpolizei.... you can see "d" between Hptw and Sch.

Don't agree with you on this, this is the place if you're looking for information about a name or abbreviation. Doesn't matter if it is written on a helmet or a piece of paper imho.

By the way, the name is not Josef Scott but Josef Schott. There were at least 10 Josef Schott's killed in action, probably there were alot more, not even mentionning those who survived. Could be hard to find out who it belonged to.
