        Hi !

Very interesting set of documents and outstanding research on the actions that led to his death !
        Thanks for showing !

In May/June 1941, he was with Transportoffizier Versorgungsbezirk Süd, Aussenstelle OKH /Gen.Qu.,
a "forward detachment" of the General-Quartiermeister, with the important task of organizing
the supply for HGr. Süd for Barbarossa.

I would be curious, if someone could explain the entry on SB p. 18, bottom :
Does this refer to a (note of death ?) Mitt.[eilung] from or to H.[eeres] St.[andort] G.[ebührnisstelle] Krummau ?!

        Cheers,

        Archi

          Archi,

That's an interesting entry that I hadn't really looked at before. It shows that the Heeres-Standort-Gebührnisstelle (Army Garrison Pay and Allowance Station) in Krummau an der Moldau in the Sudentenland was notified on 24 June 1944 that Josef Fischer had been killed (the cross doubtlessly symbolizes that Fischer was dead). A Sanitätsgefreiter (Medical Corporal), who also was a Rechnungsführer (Accountant) and whose name appears to be Hammann, made this entry. This entry shows that after Fischer's death, his Soldbuch was first forwarded to Krummau (I haven't researched this, but Krummau was presumably Fischer's last pay station) and then sent to Berlin.

            Very impressive!

Im familiar with the front page and page 2 but what were the other pages used for? I see there is a lot of writing on those pages.

Great to see a full soldbuch, thanks for sharing.

              Archi,

I had another look at this entry and now have a different opinion about it. The unit of the Sanitätsgefreiter und Rechnungsführer is not mentioned, so we only know that a report about Fischer's death was received by this soldier's unit from the Heeres-Standort-Gebührnisstelle (Army Garrison Pay and Allowance Station) in Krummau an der Moldau on 24 June 1944. I am now thinking that the Sanitätsgefreiter und Rechnungsführer was either assigned to Grenadier-Regiment 1057, or possibly Fischer's last replacement unit, Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 118 in Kaiserslautern.

Fred (Novedvory on the WAF) was kind enough to visit the German military cemetery in Orglandes to check the graves registration book and locate and photograph the grave of Josef Fischer for me. His research revealed that Fischer's date of death is incorrect in the graves registration book and on the gravestone. It's interesting to note that Fischer's rank is not given in the book or on the gravestone, perhaps revealing the German War Graves Commission had little information about him. I now plan to provide the German War Graves Commission with Fischer's correct information so that his rank and correct date of death can be added to his gravestone. Thanks again Fred!

Not the first time and will be not, for sure the last, that there are reported uncorrect infos but they are very gently and ready to receive any update from collectors and researchers!
                  Extremely fine lot!!!
