Wehrpass - Military Survellance

Hi All,

I picked this up at a Berlin Market about 3 years ago very cheap due to the fact that it had almost no pages filled in. Everything from page 8 onwards is blank - completely. There are no markings or entries to indicate death of any sort but on Page 7 there is this:

"der inhaber dieses ausweises steht in wehrüberwachung"

can anyone tell me if this person was under military survellance or he was IN military survellance. Could this explain the absence of any further records? He disappeared?

It simply means he has not been called up and is on the list of those soldiers that should report every so often to their Wehrbezirks/Kommando to ensure they are still unable to serve for whatever reason.

He is shown as being both fit at one time for Garrison duty in the field and Garrison duty in the homeland....and lastly fit for active duty!

It is used also by the Bundeswehr and in this status you should comply with the following:

• to be available always for communications of the District Recruiting Office

• notify any change of address within a week the Kreiswehrersatzamt or within one week with the registration office or unsubscribe

• to make himself personally available if you will be prompted

• notify the Kreiswehrersatzamt when the city for more than 8 weeks leave

• to apply for a permit if the Federal Republic of Germany is left longer than three months

• to undergo at the request of the army recruiting office to a security check

Thanks Ian, as always you are a fountain of knowledge. If he stayed a civilian all his life would the rest of the wehrpass get filled in or would it stay blank like this one did?
