He carried this Soldbuch the entire war. Since, unlike the Luftwaffe, the Army did not record when a man served with a unit, the best way to get an idea, is to check page 3, which lists promotion verifications (3/Landschutz Btl 458 on 21.12.40 & 1.4.41 and Stellungs Bau Pi. Btl 785 on 1.5.44), the uniform pages which may show what unit issued what uniform items and when, page 15, which shows the three security checks found in Army Soldbücher, ( II Btl/Sicherungs Rgt. 1 (?) 0n 10.2.43, Stellungs Bau Pi. Btl 785 on 1.12.43 & 1.9.44), page 22 which may show when an unit awarded a medal, and page 23-24 which show what unit he went on leave from and when. In this Soldbuch, however, the Feldpostnummer are inked over. hope that helps.

Yes, you both helped me very much. I am very thankful!

Since collecting wehrpasses and soldbucher is not my priority collecting, I am only known with standard information.
But wehrpasses and soldbucher from my living area are of high interest for me and I keep purchasing them.
I don't want to keep bothering with every pass I find or have, so would like to know if someone has a good tip for me, wich book on this subject serves best.

If someone has more info, please keep posting. Thank you

Oh yes... Anyone known with post #8: punktbewertungsliste?

I think your guy did not see fighting. At first he was with a Landeschützen Batl., also a

Stellungsbau-Pionier-Btl. and than with the Wachregiment in Paris (Ost/Est).

His only award was the Kriegsverdienstkreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern.

He was also a WWI veteran, he´s wearing the Hindenburg Cross ribbon bar in his Soldbuch picture. Unfortunately I can´t make out if it´s the combatant or non-combatant version.

            Hi all !

Some more infos and questions :
I don't want to keep bothering with every pass I find or have, so would like to know
if someone has a good tip for me, wich book on this subject serves best.
I think, simply following the advice given by Jeff (Jungco) in his very precise posting,
you can find out 95% of the info that is contained in such a Soldbuch / Wehrpass.

In addition, you might want to use this site to learn more on the various units mentioned :
            http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...liederungH.htm

In your case you can see that, although the designation of his company changed several times,
            (31./VI = 31./VIII/VI = 3./458 = 7./Wach-Rgt.Paris (Ost) = ?/Sich.Rgt 1)
it was always the same unit, only under different headquarters, which is confirmed by the fact that his
Kriegs-Stammrollen Nr. (132) remained the same all the time.
            http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...tzBat458-R.htm

            In mid 1943, he was for a short while transferred to a Landesschützen-Btl. H (?!) (see p. 6 top) :
            http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...chtzBatH-R.htm
and he then was very soon transferred again to 1.Kp./Stellungs-Bau-Pionier-Batl. 785, in Sept. 1943 p. 6/7)
probably at the time of the formation of ths unit.
            http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...llung785-R.htm

According to the battles he was involved in : until 1943 he was involved mainly with security tasks.
As Gerdan already pointed out, also with a Stellungs-Bau-Pionier-Btl. he would be working mainly
on building emplacements, fortifications, roadwork and not committed at the front. (However, in cases
of emergency, this units could be involved into combat as well.)

In late 1944 /45 the unit was deployed with the 19. Armee (always mentioned as Bau-Btl. 785) :
            - December 1944 : Alsace area (because of Frontnachweiser)
            - Jan. 45 : roem. 63. AK / or 19. Armee (Colmar pocket)
            - Feb.- April 45 : roem. 64. AK / or 19. Armee (Strassburg area ) [confirmed by stamp on p. 14]
