KIA Wehrpass 10. Pz Pionier Dieppe and Nettuno

I just recieved this interesting Wehrpass….unfortunately…without photo.


Obergefreiten Kurt Alfred Wolf was born in Obergrochlitz on 3.4.1908.

Wolf served with Panzer-Pionier-Bataillon 49 / 10. Panzer Division in all the major battles of the division in Russia where it took heavy losses and was later transferred to France. Wolf himself was wounded and awarded the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz on 12.12.1941 and the Ostmedaille on 1.8.1942. Interesting also is the entry "Kämpfe mit Partisanen from January to April 1942.


The 10. Panzer Division took part in the battle at Dieppe, or as it reads here “Zerschlagung des britischen Landungsversuches bei Dieppe”.

It is not noted anywhere in the Wehrpass that Wolf was “tropendienstfähig”. As the Division was moved from France over Italy to Tunisia, Wolf remained in Italy as part of “Bereitstellung der Panzerarmee Afrika”…though very little of the 10. PD returned.

Wolf was then transferred or absorbed by the Pionier Bataillon (mot.) 3. / 3. Panzer-Grenadier-Division (after this division was refitted after being destroyed in Stalingrad) and took part in the occupation of Southern France, the disarming on the Italian military along with the fierce battles around Anzio – Nettuno.

Wolf was awarded the Kriegsverdientskreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern on 19.4.44.

Sadly, Wolf was killed during a air raid on a Military Hospital in Schönau on 27.1.1945 and is buried in Bad Münstereifel-Schönau.
