    LW Wehrpass

    Hi All,

I am doing some research into a LW Stabsgefreiter, I am making progress (worked out he has a number of awards, including EK2 and Eastern Front Medal) but would really appreciate some help in deciphering this page.

It seems that it may be making reference to the holder's participation in an action (involving tanks?) for which he was awarded the Luftwaffe Ground Assault badge?

    Many Thanks
    G

    Hello Deptfordboy,

You are correct. It is a nice descriptive on the award mentioned. Was the man in a Lw Signals Regiment?

Great - thanks for this.Would you or anyone here be able to give me a word for word translation by any chance? That would help me a great deal as the handwriting is undecipherable to me beyond a few words...

I am not sure what regiment as they seemed to get amalgamated . That's next on the list after I work out the awards, so I will get back to you and share my findings with the people here on the forum, if they are interested !

      Cheers

          Hello G,

It is 22 Lw Signal Regiment which did it's entire service in Russia with Army Group Center. Date of entry places regiment as part of Air Fleet 6. The company number appears to be 9. A telegraph company. It took 3 assaults for the award. Entry is confirmation of having met the three required number of days. If you could please post a scan of his award and unit pages this would help.

          Regards

                      Hello G,

Thanks for providing the additional pages. Although the scans are small both units and service related to Russian Front service can be somewhat made out. Entry's confirm my earlier information that his entire service in Russia was with the 22 Signals Regiment, Army Group Center. Cannot read all service entries clearly, but on pages 35 and 47 sometime during the later half of 1942 he was posted back to Germany and then back to Russia again. Are there any service entries beyond 1943? Interestingly his Wehrpass was closed out in April, 1945 which leads to the possibility of him having become a casualty sometime between 1943-45. Is there also an entry for either a wound, or KIA?

                      Regards

                        Thanks again Mate,
Ok I also have the guy's Soldbuch - here are some scans from that which may explain the missing time (I know the scans are small - have to buy some decent software, if you can recommend some).

The first scan seems to refer to a stay in a hospital - I don't know what wound he got from the code displayed though...

Back page refers to holidays? Am i right in thinking the first entry is about a recuperation stay? Any help gratefully received as ever...
Sorry about the small scans, will have to buy some decent software...
                          Cheers

                              Hi,

Pg 15 of the soldbuch is not a hospital entry but rather a secruity check. Such checks were introduced in the beginning on 1944. The hospital entries, I believe, are before that, on roundabout pg 13/13.

The last scan refers to leave/holidays taken by the soldier. Some may be during his time is hospital. The term 'Grund' refers to the grounds of leave, and it appears as though the second one says 'Sonderurlaub' or special leave.

A site about soldbuchs that may help with translations etc can be found here:
                              http://www.soldbuchweb.com/page2.htm

Seems like he earned the EKII, Ost Medaille, 1938 Medal and some badge in bronze - possibly drivers?
