U-Boot Soldbuch award entry - help needed!

Hello. In my collection I have a Soldbuch of a crew-member of legendary U-530 (the one which arrived on July 20th 1945 under mysterious circumstances at the Argentine Coast).

It has an award entry "Ubootsabzeichen" made by FP-Nr. 47499 (10. U-Boots Flottille) which I've never seen before.

Was that the regular term at the time?

    Regards

    Hi O.B.,

I have seen a couple of different versions.

    - Ubootskriegsabzeichen.
    - Uboots Abzeichen / UbootsAbzeichen.
    - Uboots abzeichen / Ubootsabzeichen.
    - Uboote Abzeichen / UbooteAbzeichen.
    - Uboote abzeichen / Ubooteabzeichen.
And the first two letters as a capital UB.

Your Uboots abzeichen entry looks good to me.

    Best regards

    Eric-Jan

Thanks, Eric-Jan. The entry is definitely good. He got the award entry right after getting back to Lorient after 60 days with U-530 on its first war patrol under the command of Kurt Lange. They sank two ships during this Feindfahrt.

        Hi Matthias,

        ......U-530 left Kiel 20.2.1943 - and entered Lorient 22.4.1943 after 62 days.
She sank two ships during her first war patrol and damaged another one.
Four days after being back at her new base Lorient your man (can you show his name ?) received his Uboots(kriegs)abzeichen.

Is it possible to show extra pages ?
By the date entry for his wound badge it isn't clear if your man made the trip to Argentina, seems to me that he didn't, although his Soldbuch could have been updated while he was at sea, hard to say without further information / name / pages.

        Best regards

          Hi EJ,

I just started doing research on this Soldbuch. It is brimmed with entries and Feldpost-Numbers. of various U-Boot units which I'd like to put in chronological order first before showing more of it.

I guess he wasn't part of the last crew who made it to Argentina with U-530 as the Soldbuch has a 1945 entry made by a Heer-Unit
But the SB has a very nice signature of U-530 Commander Kurt Lange who signed Kornbachs promotion to Matr.-OGfr. on April 2nd 1942 - when the boat was on its first war patrol.

          Another interesting thing:

The Soldbuch came with a photo of U-977 (the U-Boot which made it together with U-530 to Argentina).
On the photos back is written (in German): "Dad on his first boat." and the date "30.6.1942".

That means that he served during his service on both U-Boots who escaped the Allies to Argentina.

          Regards, Matthias
