Generalmajor and German Cross in Gold recipient, Bronislaw Pawel. Herr Pawel entered the Imperial German Army on 13 September 1911 and appears in the Rangliste der Königlich Preussischen Armee für 1914 as a Leutnant assigned to 10 Lothringisches Infanterie=Regiment Nr. 174 headquartered at Forbach near Baden-Baden. In the Ehren-Rangliste des Ehmalign Deutsche Heeres 1914-1918, Herr Pawel appears as a Hauptmann A.D. (retired). After his wartime service, Herr Pawel served as a Police official until he was recalled to active service on 1 October 1935 as a Major assigned as Commander of the 2nd Battalion, Infanterie Regiment 81. He was subsequently promoted to Oberstleutnant on 1 April 1936, Oberst on 1 January 1939, and Generalmajor on 1 September 1942. General Pawel served in Russia as an Infantry Commander, as well as a Special Operations Officer with Army Group Nord. He was awarded the German Cross in Gold on 20 March 1942 while serving as Commander of 15 Infanterie Division on the Eastern Front. General Pawel died in captivity in January 1946 in Riga, Latvia
