My first Soldbuch-Nice award entries

Got this today at the militaria collectibles shop in Milwaukee for $75.
Served from 1940 right to the last few days of the war. There is one entry in here from May 5th, 1945.

I was wondering, did they keep a spare of the Soldbuch and Wehrpass back at the besirkskommando or somewhere?

Hello,

every soldier had his soldbuch in his breastpocket (is it the right word?), but his wehrpass was mostly kept with the company or bataillon staff, because the wehrpass and also the stammrolle was a kind of personal file. If the soldbuch was damaged, he got a new one. If the soldier was dismissed, he preserves the wehrpass at home, but the soldbuch was kept by wehrbezirkskommando. If a soldier was killed in action, the family got the wehrpass and the soldbuch (if it was found) was also kept by wehrbezirkskommando.

today there is the so called "Soldbuch-archiv" in Germany (Aachen), where many soldbücher are preserved till today, so everybody can ask for copies of the soldbuch of the relatives.

From doing some translating, they released him from the Heer on MAY 5TH, 1945!
Why did they do that so late in the war!?

Thats the day the war ended for him, so he was discharged from the Wehrmacht on that date.
Was he wounded, was he unfit? If not then he was demobilised as which was common for those guys at this time of the war!!
WWII was officially over for Axis forces 8th May 1945.

What do you need to know?

Well, there are some abbreviations and words I cannot make out on certain pages. I will makes scans of all the pages either tonight or tomorrow and circle the areas I need help with.
I would also like to know where I could find out where he was wounded. Is there such a place?

I believe wound entries are on pgs 10/11. They generally use codes as a means of indicating what was wrong. A list is available on the net - let me know if you want it.
