I'm sure Ian J. can give you the exact date and a more detailed explanation but from what he's shared with me in pervious discussions regarding this topic I think that the first Soldbücher were printed and issued just before the outbreak of the war... In other words, it would be impossible for this Soldbuch to be issued on the date that was entered because it didn't physically exist. Most likely that date represents when his service time began. Rob.

Ok. The ID obviously not a forgery. I have SBs with early 1930 dates writeen in on page 3 but a 1939 date on page 2. I know the SBs are supposed to be dated on the day they were issued. I have some that are not dated at all on page 2. So the date policy was not rigorously followed. There are a range of reasons why the ID has a 1938 date on page 2 (clerical errors,...) and none of them would cause this SB to have a problem. I don't see anything that would cause alarm.

I also think is a clerck mistake or he ignore the regulations and put the date of start serving with the unit.

The earliest Soldbuch I have is one to a memebr of Panzergrenadier Regiment 1 used on March 12th, 1.939 for a soldier who started his service on February 21st, 1.939.

Never seen one dated earlier thana this nor in 1.938.

          Waiting for others opinions

Thanks for showing such a wonderful piece.

            Hi guys!

            This Soldbuch is correct, IMO.
I have one from the "LAH" (directly from the man himself with all his other stuff), it was opened on the 24th of September 1938. At that time he was a member of the "14. / LAH". And - as always when we have early Soldbooks for SS-soldiers it's a "Heer-Soldbuch".

            Kind regards,

            Peter

Looks like a good chance it is....below is the info from "Führerliste der Waffen SS" by J.P. Moore.

If you google him you can find the following info which puts him in the same Kompanie:

One such example found in the UK (reference WO 208/3647) is the interrogation of SS-Stubaf Jacob Hanreich
                            1911, born Austria
1929, SA "rising to the rank of Scharfuehrer, and has been in the Allgemeine SS and Bayrische Hilfspolizei. A tough type."
10 May 1933, posted to Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler, Berlin
1935, Platoon leader in 6 Company as SS-Ustuf
                            1937, transferred to 14 Coy (A/Tk Coy)
                            1938, A/Tk Lehrgang at Doeberitz
from Sept 1939, LAH Regiment went through Polish, French and Greek campaigns
mid March 1941, unit to Bruenn then into Russia

                                Hi all -

First of all, I would like to congratulate the owner of this original Soldbuch.

I too was perplexed when I saw the issue date of this book. Two questions arise:

                                1. Does anyone possess the original regulation (OKW?) regarding the issuance of Soldbuecher? What is the date?

                                2. When did the SS first come up with its own gray Soldbuch with the runic cover?

                                Best regards,

                                George
