Here's a Soldbuch that Panzer Rob sold a couple of years ago - it was for a soldier assigned to garrison the channel islands. What was most interesting to me was the fact that he was assigned to the 156th Infantry Division right at the end of the war.

Channel Islands Soldbuch
A good book that chronicles the story of the division, from the individual infantryman's perspective, is Helmut Altner's book, "Berlin Dance of Death." He and his comrades were placed in secondary frontline positions and trained, though not issued their own weapons. When the Soviets began their final Berlin offensive, the 156th found itself at a severe advantage, since it was an infantry division in name only. It lacked just about everything taken for granted in the establishment of a division - heavy weapons, small arms, communications equipment and so on.Attached Files
