      Wehrpasses were kept by the unit - Soldbuchs were carried by the soldier.

          Hi all !

          Many thanks to Rob for putting up that additional scan !

          I think the place mentioned could be Lok(k)eren, about 15 km NE of Gent.

          There is a FMS report on the 70. Inf.Div. downloadable at sturmpanzer :

          On page 17 it says :
          "On 4 September 1944 Fifteenth Army ordered the Division staff, 1018 and 1020 Inf.Rgts., the Engineer battalion,
          2 light Artillery battalions, The Signal battalion, and one Recon platoon to be withdrawn [from Walcheren]
          and employed alog a line Breskens - Deynze - southern edge of Gent - Wichelen [10 km S of Lokeren]
          with the task of keeping the bridges across the Lys Canal and the Schelde river open for the divisions
          retreating from the South to the North and further, to prevent the enemy from crossing these rivers."

          So the Major was possibly with one of those two Arty battalions and was reported missing after this redeployment.
