Hi all, just throwing out a question, been on the lookout for some new wehrstammbuchs to bolster my collection but they seem to have dried up - endless wehrpass's and soldbuchs but none of the above. Any ideas or if you know someone selling some - please point me in the right direction.

They are supposed to be in the archives. Many on the market may have been stolen from archives but many others where turned over to various other organizations by the Armricans after occupying the original Wehrbezirk buildings. In 1978, a fellow soldier gave me some he found after they had cleaned out an attic in one of the barracks buildings in Furth. Who knows what the Russians did with them.

There are still plenty of them on the market if you know where to look. There are some on here.. http://www.mbertram.de/online/MBertr...isch/index.htm ...and here... http://www.militariarelics.com - just type Wehrstammbuch into the Search box on those two sites.

Sometimes they were sent to the family of a KIA soldier.
I've seen it a couple of times. Why? i don't know. I thought that the Wehrstammbuch should stay in the army archives.
I got one grouping that includes the Soldbuch, Wehrpass and Wehrstammbuch with the Gesundheitsbuch.I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

Just out of interest Jungco, how do they happen to end up in a complete set?..there are several out there for sale, Wehrstammbuch, Wehrpass and Soldbuch to the same man.
I have pondered this before since theoretically they should have stayed in the archives, how have they ended up with the Soldier of family of the soldier?
Regards, Lynton.

The way it is supposed to work is that when a soldier is killed or missing (after three months), if available, the Soldbuch is sent to the soldier's Wehrmeldeamt or Wehrbezirk, along with any current Kriegsstammrollen, and Wehrpaß. The Werhpaß is supposed to be sent to the family, the Soldbuch and any other paperwork were to be put with the Wehrstammbuch. If there is no family, the Wehrpaß stays with the Wehrstammbuch or if there has been a Zweitschrift and the other one has been found. That is only two of the reasons. Many Wehrstammbüher that you see recently came from a cache that had been captured and turned over to a church location service. How they made it to the market is any ones guess.
